Artist Statement

I create my artwork to give the viewer a glimpse into my impression of an aesthetic world. A world similar to ours but with the unattractive details simply omitted or replaced. I want to inspire a sense of awe in the viewers of my work similar to the awe that I feel looking at the world.
I work predominantly in oil painting and bronze sculpture and always attempt to create artwork that is technically impressive, conceptually original, and artistically superior. On the issue of subject matter, I find myself gravitating towards many recurring interests, most of which first originated when I was a small child. The idea of being able to fly, bridges constructed from temporary materials that span great distances, natural settings with extensive vegetation, sky scrapers, Sailing ships, and architectural ruins are some of the themes that I continue to incorporate into my art.
Stylistically I draw from numerous influences which include, Leonardo Da Vinci, J.M.W. Turner, Caspar David Friedrich, Giovanni Piranesi, and Thomas Moran. From the Hudson River School, Frederic Church, Thomas Cole, Thomas Hill, Fitz Hugh Lane, and John Frederick Kensett. Some more recent artists such as, Norman Rockwell, Ralph McQuarrie, Ben Aronson, Doug Chiang, Erik Tiemens, Ryan Church, and Raymond Swanland.  As for sculptors, Michelangelo, Bernini, Rodin, Horatio Greenough, Donald Judd, and Richard Serra.
